Testing the Principles
The treatment of religious minorities is the ultimate measure of a government's commitment to human dignity, and although this freedom is protected in our Constitution, it has sometimes faltered.
These faces illustrate both the challenges to and the triumphs of religious freedom that the members of these faiths have embodied. Some of our faces have been the victims of religious persecution, while others illustrate how religious freedom has permitted minority communities to flourish and gain a public voice as they contribute to our unique and richly-textured American culture.
