Building the American Dream

  Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972)

Heschel is pictured here with Martin Luther King, Jr. Heschel was a Jewish philosopher and theologian, a rabbi and scholar, a civil rights leader, and an early supporter of Jewish Christian dialogue. He came to America from Poland when he fled Nazi persecution. He was an early influence in the interfaith movement, through which people of deep and differing religious commitments nonetheless find common purpose.
