Clash of Cultures, New Religions

  Jerry Falwell (1933–2007)

Evangelist and televangelist, Falwell was the founder of the Moral Majority, Liberty University, and the Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Falwell was a long-time leader and lightning rod in the culture wars. He was an outspoken critic of the civil rights movement and later, a supporter of South African Apartheid, but he remains a hero to many who call for the right to life, traditional marriage, and conservative Christian morality as a basis for government policy.
