The Constitution and Religion in the Classroom

Welcome to The Constitution and Religion in the Classroom. This online video and teacher's manual assists high-school teachers in understanding, implementing and teaching the First Amendment in the classroom. Administrators and educators at all grade levels, and students and parents will also find the materials to be a useful information source.

The centerpiece of the presentation is a captivating and educational classroom video of a debate between two top legal experts. The 16-page manual contains answers and guidance to the most-frequently-asked questions about religion in the classroom. The questions were submitted by teachers, students and parents nationwide. The manual also contains a lesson plan and classroom activities. The materials have been prepared as an educational service by the First Freedom Center, a politically and religiously neutral 501(c)(3) organization that provides educational programs to advance the fundamental human rights of freedom of religion and freedom of consicence.

"America's public schools and religion: Some people think the two don't and shouldn't mix. Others say it's banning all talk of religion from our schools that is responsible for many of the problems young people face, from drug abuse to teenage pregnancy."

--Narrator, The Constitution and Religion in the Classroom: A Debate

"Normally you'd have to go to the Supreme Court to see these two attorneys in action; but in this video, these same experts discuss--in terms that high-school students can access--how the religious freedom clauses of the First Amendment apply in the classroom. It's a rare opportunity."

Former U.S. Ambassador-At-Large for International Religious Freedom
